If you drive from Sharjah to Dubai in the early morning, you've probably wondered whether Salik charges apply when you pass the Al Mamzar toll gates right before and after 6:00 AM.

Let’s say you pass Mamzar North at 5:59 AM and Mamzar South at 6:01 AM — are you charged once, twice, or not at all?

Understanding Salik Timing

Salik, Dubai’s electronic toll system, has a daily toll-free window from 1:00 AM to 6:00 AM. During this period, all toll gates are inactive — meaning no charges are applied, regardless of how many you pass.

So, if you cross Mamzar North at 5:59 AM, you’re still within the toll-free window.

But what about Mamzar South at 6:01 AM?

Well, at 6:00 AM sharp, the toll system becomes active again. So technically, passing any Salik gate after 6:00 AM can result in a charge — but there’s a catch.

The One-Hour Rule

The Mamzar area has two Salik gates — Mamzar North and Mamzar South — and they are very close to each other. According to RTA (Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority), if a driver passes through two consecutive toll gates in the same direction within one hour, only one toll fee is charged.

That means:

• If you pass Mamzar North at 5:59 AM (toll-free),

• and Mamzar South at 6:01 AM (toll-active),

• you won’t be charged for Mamzar North since it's within the free window,

• and you will not be charged for Mamzar South either, because your journey began during the toll-free time and the system can recognize it as a continuation of the same trip.

So, Will I Be Charged or Not?

No.

You’re will not be charged because:

You passed the first salik gate was during toll-free hours.

Only one toll is charged within a 1-hour window across linked gates.
